Laparoscopic Kidney Surgery
Surgery to remove a portion of your kidney is called a laparoscopic partial nephrectomy. The healthy portions of your kidney can continue to function after the diseased or damaged portion has been removed. The kidneys are two bean-shaped organs located on either side of the upper abdomen under the ribs. They are responsible for eliminating wastes and other undesirable compounds from the body. Your urine removes these wastes from your body. An organ that produces hormones, the adrenal gland, is located on top of each kidney. Special molecules known as hormones regulate a number of bodily processes. During this procedure, the adrenal gland and other tissues could be removed.
When your kidney is injured, you might need a laparoscopic partial nephrectomy. This could be brought on by kidney cancer, infection, kidney stones, or clogged blood arteries. The capacity of your kidneys to regulate blood pressure and eliminate waste from your body is decreased by these disorders. Your kidney condition may be treated with this operation, preventing further kidney damage.
After Surgery
The day of surgery or the day after may need you to walk around. Blood clots can be prevented by exercise. You might also be instructed to perform workouts in bed. Wait until your caregiver gives you the okay to get out of bed on your own. Before you get up for the first time, consult with your carers.
They might have to assist you in standing up safely. If you feel weak or lightheaded as soon as you are able to stand up on your own, sit or lay down right away. So that caregivers are aware that you require assistance, push the call light button.
After surgery, you will be able to eat some foods and drink some liquids after your stomach function has returned. At start, you might be handed ice chips. Liquids such water, broth, juice, and clear soft drinks will thereafter be given to you. Soft meals like ice cream and applesauce may then be offered to you if your stomach does not become upset. You can gradually start eating solid foods after you can readily consume soft foods.
