Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery
Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery (RIRS) is a method that involves doing surgery on the kidney utilizing a fiberoptic endoscope as a viewing tube. The scope is inserted into the bladder through the urethra (urinary hole) and then into the urine-collecting region of the kidney through the ureter. As a result, the scope is pushed backward (up the urinary tract) to the kidney (intrarenal).
Procedure of the surgery
A stone may be removed using RIRS. The stone is seen through the scope and can be manipulated or crushed with an ultrasonic probe, vaporized with a laser probe, or seized with small forceps, among other options.
A professional, Dr.Neeraj Gupta, urologist in Bhopal &endourologist with special competence in RIRS, performs the procedure. Typically, the laser surgery in Bhopal, is performed under general or spinal anesthetic. RIRS has a number of advantages over open surgery, including a speedier resolution of the problem, the removal of post-surgical pain, and a considerably faster recovery.
Even though PNL is a well-established treatment for renal stones, the consequences are potentially dangerous. PNL has been linked to renal trauma of Grade 4. Interventional radiology or open surgery is required in hemodynamically unstable individuals with severe injuries. When treating renal stones with a diameter of less than 2 cm, RIRS is a better option. In our clinical experience, most patients inquire if a safer therapy is available when we discuss the potential consequences of PNL to them to acquire informed consent.
